A warm welcome to our forum. I am sorry to hear about the pains that you are having in your breast. I am not a doctor, merely another breast cancer pilgrim, but I have been told that it is unusual to get pain in your breast when you have cancer, so here's hoping that it is a simple infection, which could cause the type of pain you describe.

I presume that this is why your GP has prescribed Flurocillin, so here's hoping that  she is correct and, that this heals it up. I am sorry to hear about the loss of your grandmother and neighbour. I know how you feel as I have lost my mother, father plus other relatives and close friends to cancer. Like you, I was frantic and scared silly when I was first diagnosed myself. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 10 years, which just goes to show how much diagnosis, treatment and after care have improved in the past few years. Where in the past so many people died with breast cancer, a much greater number are now living with it.

Try to avoid consulting 'Dr Google' at the moment. When you don't know whether or not there is any cancer present, or if there is what type and grade it is, there is no point in turning to the internet. You will only manage to scare yourself even further and to convince yoursel that you a are facing a worst case scenario. Fortunately, this seldom turns out to be the case.

Can you take someone with you to your appointments? It is always a good idea to do so, especially when you expect to get the results of any tests.

Thank you for getting back to me, I really appreciate it. You sound so brave & it helps so much to have someone to chat too. I am trying to put it out of my mind to for the family & enjoy Christmas but it hurts now & then. I hope & pray it's not cancer & will definitely let you know when I get date through for breast clinic. I hope you're having a lovely Christmas & thank you again.

I am far from brave, but ten years in, I have come to accept my lot and, every day that I am here is a bonus. You must be finding it very hard not to tell the family about your situation. I can understand why you don’t want to spoil their Christmas, but can you tell one member of the family or a special friend? You will find it so much easier to cope if you have someone who you can discuss your innermost fears with.

I am hoping and praying that your GP is right and, the fact that she couldn’t find anything untoward signifies good news for you. Only 1 person out of every 8 referred to the breast clinic turns out to have breast cancer, so the odds for you getting a benign result are good.

I hope that you have had a lovely day with your family today and that you can say that you have had a Happy Christmas, despite having this hanging over you.

It's so heartwarming to know this world still has kind people who genuinely care about others enough to take the time to support them on this forum, it has helped me so much & I'm so grateful. I keep hoping each day that these tablets have started to work but it's sadly the same. As the referral is a two week wait I should hear soon which both terrifies me & relieves me, I need it sorted but Im not looking for to having it prodded & pushed during examination again it was very sore. I will definitely let you know how things go.

Hi Colleen,

Give the tablets time to work. They'll take a while to kick in. Try not to worry about being 'prodded and pushed' at your consultation. On all the occasions that I have been examined, I have found my examinations to be very gentle. 

If you need  a mammogram, that can squeeze your breast a little, but your consultant may not even request one of these if an infection is diagnosed and, s/he knows that you are sore. The best thing to learn early on is to try your best not to worry about what you know nothing about. Take things day by day and one step at a time.

Went for and ultra sound & found a lump which they think is unrelated to the pain.

The pain they think is more menstrual cycle pain and changes in the body but if I hadn't have gone the lump may not have been picked up. 

Awaiting biopsy results. 

All I can say is if your worried go. The anxiety about what might be, may end up causing more pains and therefore making you more anxious. 

what were your results? X
