throat cancer

Hi all, i hope i dont offend anybody by posting to this group as i've not had a diagnosis.. i have however been experiencing some symptoms which are concerning me and I've convinced myself i must have cancer. I have been having some trouble swallowing for a few weeks, food getting stuck and sometimes drinks coming up out of my nose, i have also experienced heartburn and excessive wind (belching) after eating, i can feel a swelling within my neck but cant see or feel anything on  the outside to touch. I'm so worried i have two very small children and the worry is taking over me, I'm currently sat crying with anxiety while i wrap their presents instead of enjoying christmas eve with my children. I've read some really scary things online about throat cancer having the highest mortality rate and it's literally ruining Christmas the thought. I'm going to go the doctor as soon as its back open after xmas period. No real reason for this post i just need to tell someone how I'm feeling because i dont want to ruin Christmas for my husband by bringing it up without a real diagnosis, just more of a match of symptoms...

  • Darling,

If it's worying you then it's important. But look through my thread for how I was diagnosed and for other people who were ok. Also, donnalouise who got good news today after being in exactly your position. (Sorry, it just would take far too long to write again.)

Obviously, I'm no doctor and I can't see your throat but I'm willing to bet my last mince pie you will be a million times better after starting to take Omeprozole. My partner and I both have acid reflux which has a surprising range of symptoms, all of them scary. Omeprozole is a total miracle so take it and try it if you are offered it.

But please be reassured, not every scary symptom is deadly. Radioactive Raz has a good blog that can show you how throat cancer progresses and how she - and I - have come through this. The statistics are very positive for no illness. The internet is a piece of nonsense. I had hpv related squamous  cell carcinoma of the tonsil ( yeah, really, who knew?) and there are12 new cases in Scotland every year. There are 6 million people in Scotland. And I buy lottery tickets like I'm already a millionaire but guess which one comes up? And I am completely cured but the WebMD says I have very little chance even though my consultant told me right from the start I would be fine.

So go and put the carrot out for Rudolph and you and Santa have a big drink. See the doctor at the end of the week. Let me know how you get on.

    Ho ho ho.

    Hug,

    Allie
