3 weeks today and no results from biopsy

Hello all,

I had a rather large lump on my neck that had to be removed 3 weeks ago.

I was told I would have the results of the biopsy in two weeks at the longest but so far I have heard nothing.

does anyone know if this is normal? And is there a Nhs contact number I can phone to find out how it’s proccessing ? Also does longer waiting times mean the results are in favour of being good or bad?

I had been getting many symptoms the coming months before hand, feeling very tired and fatigued and started to panic a bit about it, so I’m getting a bit anxious about the time it’s taking.

Thank you

  • Hey have you heard anything? I'm in the same boat

  • Still nothing atm. Hopefully not too long into January but I was advised it could be up to 8 weeks from the procedure

  • Hi!

having been in your position I have waited a month for my biopsy results and they were good. It's never really certain to why they're making you wait so long and sometimes it gets really annoying.

the hospital should give you an nurse that looks after all your needs and you should contact them.

if not you should contact the ward you stayed on during the removal surgery.

its literally the worst wait I know but it's usually good in the end.

They diagnosed me without doing a biopsy and got I had two unseeded surgeries.

its good that they biopsied you first as you will get to treatment quicker.

its been around a week now so I'm hoping you got a response.

its also around Christmas and news years isn't it so maybe that's delaying it slightly.

but as I said just contact the nurse or the ward you were staying on.

    best wishes x

  • It's so frustrating.... Like you I am waiting. It wont help us, but from April 2020 the NHS are seeking to improve on waiting to get a diagnosis and move it to 4 weeks max.

  • I'm 4 weeks today since biopsy and still not heard anything, I'm currently looking out for postman, hospital said 2 to 3 weeks but due to lead up to christmas they said it could be longer coz pathology really busy and christmas post, it's a nightmare

  • Hello so just a quick update.

    Thanks for everyone’s replies.

i still haven’t received my results since my biopsy from the lump on my neck, which was removed on the 2nd of December. I phoned in today and was told that they had my results and they were processed just yesterday but the person on the phone said they couldn’t tell me my results by telephone and that I would be expected to receive them by mail on Monday.

So I have a few questions to ask that I’m hoping some of you might know about.

Is it still possible to get results over telephone if they are good results? and is it possible to receive a cancer diagnosis by mail? or for myself to receive information in regards that I should come in to speak to doctor about my biopsy?

Sorry these questions might be a bit far fetched but it will be about 7 weeks I’ve had to wait by the time I get close to my answers.

    Thanks

  • Hi Caravan

I dont blame you for being anxious who wouldnt be?

I know any tests biopsies etc were always face to face with consultant.

I do know that negative breast biopsies can be delivered by mail. I dont think its procedure in Scotland to give any results good or bad over the phone,so I dont think you will get anywhere on phone.

I think you do have reason to be optomistic though. There is a timeline they must follow for cancer positive biopsy results generally 14days I am sure. So the time you have waited should make you feel a bit more positive.

I am keeping fingers crossed for you do let us know how it goes. xx

  • Hello Clara,

thanks for taking the time to respond to me. I am now feeling slightly more optimistic :)

i will I’ll be sure to keep you updated.

    thanks!

  • Hi there,

I'm currently in the same situation, any updates?

    Thanks

  • Hi I've been reading this thread as you can probably guess I'm waiting and worried too.

What happened in the end? Was it good news.  Hope so. Would really like to know how you got on in the end x
