A bit confused

A few weeks ago I had a mammogram, right breast has a lump they ordered a ultrasound scan too. Today I attended ultrasound scan consultant thought it was benign but kept mentioning lymphoma I felt he was in a hurry to get out of room so no chance to ask anything. Next he said I needed a CT scan. I thought benign is a cyst am I not  understanding something here.

  • Hello Karen04

I'm sorry to hear that you've needed some additional tests after your recent mammogram.

When a lump is defined as benign that means it's non cancerous however there are lots of causes for benign lumps including cysts.
It sounds as if the Consultant is being thorough in ordering the additional CT scan to see what exactly is going on.

I hope that you don't have to wait too long for your appointment but if you'd like to chat things over with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040. They are now back in the office after Christmas on Friday 27th December but typically are available 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes,
