Cancer scare

Hi last week I found a lump on the ride side of my neck it's hard but tender to touch then a few days later one appeared on the other side, the first one is pretty big and its uncomfortable when sleeping ie lying on that side. The first doctor I saw said take paracetamol,  I went back last monday n this doctor gave me antibiotics and has referred me for an urgent ultrasound.  The antibiotics havent done anything, I am prone to tonsillitis but knew it wasnt that as I had no other symptoms.  I had my bloods taken which came back high white blood cells.  Last night I started to get a slight sharpness up the right side of my throat where th big lump is and slightly in my ear. When I looked in my throat I can see something on my tonsil not sure If it's an ulcer.  Lumps are still the same size and that's a week on antibiotics. I'm terrified as I think everything is pointing to cancer. I have 4 young children and cant stop crying. Can anyone help or advise me please.

  • Hi Scared_mum,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to read how you're feeling at the moment - I can understand this as the uncertainty is never easy.

It's good that you have the ultrasound booked as hopefully it means you'll get some answers soon. Until the appointment, unfortunately there's not much you can do so the best thing is to try to carry on as normally as possible and people often say keeping busy helps. I know sometimes this can be easier said than done but try to keep your mind off it as much as possible.

I hope it's not too much longer for you to wait to find out more.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
