Inflammatory breast cancer

hi all!

Around a week and a half ago I found a red mark on my breast (about the size of a 2p coin) and a small lump I underneath.

i went to the gp and gave me an exam - he said it's most likely a cyst as the lump is smooth and mobile. I was however mostly concerned about the red mark. He said that the redness isn't a concern. As I am going on holiday this Saturday he said I could not get a ultrasound till I come back. He said to call as soon as I come back and they'll do the two week referral. He said I shouldn't be too concerned and said on a scale of 1 to 10 he was like 1 concerned.

The red mark didn't go away and I was constantly panicking and scared.

I was of course continually panicked and still concerned about IBC. i then went to another gp who said the same as the first - the lump is small and feels more like in the skin. The red mark he said could be a small inflammation or a blocked duct. Again saying that I will get referred to a ultrasound in jan.

im continually panicky and looking at my breasts and feeling them multiple times a day. Looking for changes all the time. The red mark is still there and not going away. jm also starting to feel some pain on the side between my breast and my armpit - but I've been told that because I'm thinking and panicking about it so much - it may be caused by worry or stress - although I'm not so sure.

im 26 by the way.

  • Hi there

You appear to be worrying yourself sick. You need to trust the GPs, cancer lumps are solid and fixed, you should take comfort from the fact that both GPs have diagnosed this as a cyst and referred you for an ultrasound to confirm. The GPs have said nothing that merits you thinking that this is cancer - quite the opposite.

Your body will became sore if you keep proding it. IBC has other symptoms and you have just mentioned a red mark - so again I would trust your GP.

I hope you have a great holiday :)

  • Hello!
    Thank you for your response!
I'm trying my best not to worry - however my breast has been hurting today. Especially in the area of the bruise. It's like a dulling pain and then sometimes a shooting pain through the breast. Which has now caused me to be even more worried.

i will try to enjoy my holiday and carry on stressing when I'm back

    have a lovely Xmas!

  • Try not to worry, you've had two examinations, try and trust the expertise of your GPs. This explains different breast conditions, hope it helps
