Lumpy Neck Fear

Hello

Can anyone help calm me down?

Went to see GP today about two hard lumps I found last week in my neck - one at the back just where skull ends -occidental lymph node area I think - and the other cervical lymph node area. Ive been referred for an ultrasound.

I admit to being terrified. Both grandparents, both parents, my two siblings and my neice have had cancer.

Is this me now?

I have felt crap for months but put this down to menopause (had ovaries removed last year - benign growth - consultant said he would have left them in but for my family history). Night sweats, fatigue etc. both usual symptoms of menopause. Am unaware of any current infection and Ive not had a cold nor sore throat in ages.

Oh god I am freaking out. Husband got his own woes, as have my family....its the run up to christmas. I know there's NEVER a good time...but NOW!?....really?

I need someone to tell me to calm down. Ive had ultrasounds and scares before due GP's being thoroughness (we dont have the defective BRCA gene - just bad luck) but this feels difderent because Ive been feeling so weak of late.

Any advice on how to get through the next few weeks much appreciated. I have two small kids. Im so worried.

Thank you.

  • Hi,

I have been reading every possible thread on this site for a year as i found about 6 lumps in my neck, 2 in the places you say. I was convinced it was bad news and after many trips to the doctors they sent me for a ultrasound, this was today. The doctor who did the scan said there just normal glands which can be felt. I also thought my biggest one was about 1 inch big when infact when he measured it, it was 4.3mm. He sent me on my way and said there is nothing to worry about.

I have never commented on a post but have decided now i will write my positive story as for a year I've frantically searched the page for replys like this.

So although it's best to be checked. It can be nothing xx

  • Thank you. Ive never done this before either. Your info has helped. Thank you for taking the time to respond. You must be so relieved - today was a good day! I'm hoping its all the same for me. Thanks again much appreciated. Xx

  • It's ok, i know how you feel. It couldn't possibly be anything else! But it can. I also spent hours on google. This was the worst thing i could of done! Fingers crossed for you xxx

  • Hi, sorry to jump on this post. How long did you have swollen lymph nodes in your neck for? I have roughly 4 which I can feel, I have my ultrasound next week but I’m petrified! I’m 5 months pregnant and really worried and stressed. I’ve been told I shouldn’t have swollen lymph nodes as they should go back to normal size. I’ve had them for a year! X

  • I've had mine for about 7 months got ultrasound on the 20th Jan earliest they could do. Also causes pain
