Smear test results - high grade dyskaryosis, worried

Hi everyone,

I'm in desperate need of some advice.

I had a smear test 3 weeks (give or take a few days) ago and on Saturday I received a text from the hospital about a gynocologist appointment that I'm due to go. Well my mind went into overdrive I'm only 24 (nearly 25) and I didn't even have my smear results back yet. Long story short after a weekend of trying every number I could find on google for my results I ended up in the doctors on Monday morning, was waiting as they unlocked the door.
Literally nothing prepared me for the results.
High-risk HPV detected

High-grade Dyskaryosis is present. (Severe) [4]

Did the worst thing possible and went straight to google. Anyway gone private for a gynaecologist and got an app for today. Colscopy all done and biopsy sent off. Now I'm lied in bed terrified I didn't ask enough questions.

how did my cervix look?

did it look cancerous?

he did tell me he lasered off and cut off any abnormalities.

Can someone please put my mind at rest anyone els been in a similar situation?

My dad died 2 months ago of cancer and my Nan had cervical cancer at 24.
Thankyou In advance

  • I think it's only natural to have a few questions running through your head after you've had an appointment/treatment Mills, but if you really feel it's getting to you maybe you could write everything down and take it with you when you next see the gynaecologist?

I'm sure some of our members who have been in a similar situation will pop by when they can to share their experiences and hopefully put your mind at ease but if you'd like to talk things through with someone then do give our cancer nurses a call. You can get in touch with them on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Kind regards,
