Throat referral

So a 3-4 months ago, i visited a private gp about getting some dizzy spells/light headedness. He gave me some exercises to do and said to come back if it continuted. I did that and it continued, however it wasnt persistent. I would often have a couple of weeks without it at all. I went back and he said he would refer me to an ENT. Now i have medical insurance but they said they would send it to my local GP as i wouldnt have to pay for the referral. After about 4 weeks I heard nothing so chased my GP. I was told I would need to be seen by them before they would send the referral. Today I went to my local gp and he examined me. I also mentioned that I had noticed when i bring up phlegm from my throat (without coughing) there is often bits of blood in there. He felt my neck and said one of my glands were swollen. He said he was going to referr me to an ENT but it could be an urgent one to rule out cancer (due to the blood).

Now I haven't even been diagonosed, this was today and I cant even begin to describe the feeling I have inside right now. I am 26, never smoked, never really been around people that have. Dont use drugs, and drink probably once every couple of weeks. I have no trouble at all swallowing, cant remember the last time I had a sore throat, my voice is fine. Only thing is this blood in my spit from my throat and a bad taste in my mouth sometimes. I dont even have a cough.

I guess the point of this post is to try and reach out to people who have had any similar symptoms and what the process was like? I know I haven't even been seen by an ENT yet and nothing has been confirmed but this feeling is eating me up, despite my best efforts to try and put it to one side.

  • Hi btw,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to read what you're going through - I can imagine this is unsettling.

My reply here will boost your post so more people will see it and if anyone has any similar experience then hopefully they'll be along soon. You may find it helpful to search the forum for similar discussions if you'd like to know what to expect at the clinic.

I know it's easier said than done but try not to worry until you find out more - and I hope it's not too much longer to wait for you.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
