Worried about gynaecology app for 2 week referral

Hi I’m new to this forum but just wanted to hear other people’s experiences. I’m 48 have suffered horrendous periods for years went on the mini pill to help anyway had a smear about 6 weeks ago dr did a pelvic exam found what she said was a small cyst on ovary sent me for pelvic and transvaginal scan which came back super quick sent me for CA125 blood test that came back slightly raised at 51 she said that could be due to other conditions anyway the ultrasound was not conclusive ovaries fine no cyst present but some mass of some sort was found although they could not decide what it is so have been referred for urgent 2 week appointment to see a gynaecologist so as you can imagine I am petrified she did say it could’ve endometriosis but also said she couldn’t rule anything out so any ideas anyone.? Thanks in advance

  • Hi,

sorry to hear your having a crappie time, I went through a similar experience 2years ago. I was 49 and had already been through the menopause in my 30s,but had terrible lower back pain. I then developed lower back pain & really struggled to eat, I was sent for a scan and they found 4 cysts, when they checked my bloods mine was also slightly elevated. They decided to keep an eye on things and I went for monthly scans & blood tests. Gradually I became really anemic & my cysts started growing into irregular shapes. Eventually it was decided that as I’d already gone through the menopause it would be best to remove the cysts, ovaries & tubes. I have to admit I felt amazing within 24 hours, no more stomach or back pain & the biopsy came back clear 3 weeks later- long belay as I had op just b4 Christmas.

Good luck & try not to worry.

  • Hi

thanks for the reply glad your better now I think I feel worse because they don’t know what it is just that the ultrasound didn’t provide definite answers.! So automatically I am fearing the worst.! Think the notknt knowing is so hard and of course after googling I feel even worse.!x

  • I had hysteroscopy a week ago, the waiting is horrible, I was referred as suspected polyp was seen by radiologist, the consultant said "it" wasnt a polyp and had to take biopsy, my anxiety took over and I kept asking, if it wasnt a polyp, then what is it? The consultant while sat between my legs in stirrups was very evasive with me, almost to the point of ignoring me and said, I'd get results in 2-4 weeks as pathology really busy then left the room !!! The nurses were lovely and asked if i had children, my anxiety is in over drive at the moment !!!

  • It’s horrible isn’t it the waiting and to be treated like that just sends your anxiety into overdrive.! I am on pins now for my appointment hate the waiting and anxiety of not knowing. Fingers crossed everything turns out ok for you.x

  • It is the worst, the waiting for the postman is driving me nuts, have you had biopsy yet?

  • No not yet got my appointment through today for a week on Thursday and it says gynaecological oncologist  so now I’m convinced they think I have cancer so am in further meltdown if that’s possible.!!!x
