Worried! Recalled twice to breast clinic

Hi, I'm new to the forum.  I'm 52 with no history of breast cancer in my family.  Had my first mammogram recall a week before my 50th birthday and was worried.  Breast clinic did 3 further mammograms and ultrasound at that time but it showed everything was ok thankfully.  Three weeks ago had a letter for another routine mammogram (which wasn't due until next year) but they said they were ahead on their screening programme.  Went along and mentioned that I could feel a very small hard smooth lump just above left nipple.  I've always had dense, lumpy and ridgy breasts so wasn't too worried.  Just had letter asking me to go back again for more tests!  I'm so worried, this is the second time I've been recalled now after routine mammograms and it's terrifying.  I know they are only being thorough but I'm worried they may have missed something on my first mammogram a few years ago.

  • Hi Mary and welcome to Cancer Chat.

Mammogram recalls are actually quite common as many of our members here have found out so hopefully some of them will be along soon to offer their support and share their experiences with you.

I'm not sure when your next set of tests are but I just wanted to wish you good luck for them and let you know we'll all be rooting for you and will have our fingers crossed you get the all clear again.

    Kind regards,

  • Thank you.  I had an ultrasound which showed a fluid filled cyst.  In was drained with a needle in minutes.  No further treatment needed.  Hardly felt a thing.  It's so hard not to worry when a recall letter arrives but this has encouraged me in future to always keep things in perspective
