First mammogram at 49 and recalled! Frantic

Had my first mammogram 3 weeks ago, and just had a letter yesterday asking me to go in on Monday for further tests.
this has me so worried I've practically been planning my funeral this weekend. The fact my apt was so quick after receiving the letter worried me, as why the urgency? And I wasn't even meant to have this mammogram until after I turned 50!
Am just so scared for my kids and thinking the worst, googling hasn't helped either, it's made me panic more.

I have read lots on here about others having the same thing and it being ok, but somehow I keep thinking no, that won't be the case for me.

  • Hi Clairp27,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. It can be natural to think the worst in these sorts of situations, but until you know more there is nothing to be done so try not to worry if you can - I know this is easier said than done.

Also try to avoid Googling things as the information is rarely helpful and can be irrelevant or out of date.

I see that today is your appointment, so I hope that it all goes well.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Hi Clair

How did you get on today?  I'm thinking of you.  I know it's difficult but trust me, when you know what the status is, things are easier.  The worst point at any stage of this is the unknown.

    Please update us!

  • Thank you for your replies. They found microcalcifications in the left side so I had another mammogram and ultra sound and a biopsy. As they were so tiny they have all been removed with the biopsy and I have to go back next week for the results. Everyone was so nice and very reassuring so I feel so much more relaxed now as the consultant said even if the results come back there was changes in the cells it's so tiny and all been removed anyway now with the biopsy. They put a marker in so they could see where it had been for future mammograms.

It was all slightly uncomfortable but fine and now I feel so much better :-)

  • That is absolutely brilliant news, chuffed for you!!!
