Smear test results

Hi I am really worried as my smear test results have come back to say I have tested HPV positive and that my cells are abnormal. They have called it borderline change. I can't stop crying and I am really worried this means cancer as I'm only 24. I have to wait two weeks for a letter to be sent to me with an appointment for a colposcopy. Can anyone adivse me if this has happened to them.

    I had this 25 years ago and it was nothing to be worried about. I had a repeat smear then a colposcopy and have had normal smears ever since! Mine wasn't borderline it was definite changes in the cells. They told me though once they were removed that would be the end of it and it would only be if they'd left them they could develop into cancer in the future.

    I know it's hard not to worry but please try as I'm sure you will be ok. Thinking of you xx

    Hi Vicky,

    I have twice in my life had a borderline change with follow up followed by many normal smears. I’ve also had HPV show up a couple of years ago and they took cells inside the neck of the cervix and all was fine. 2 normal smears since. They are being very careful to check and so as Clair says try not to worry.
