2 week referral and scared

Hi,

Im 29 and had one normal smear 4 years ago I went to the doctors last week for an internal (I have been having pain during and after sex pressure in my pelvis and spotting) when I arrived the doctor stated it will probably just be thrush but we will have a look anyway she didn't seem concerned at all. she looked inside me at my cervix and said that it looked like friction marks and she could see some discharge and something else which I can't remember the name of she tgen told me she was reffering me for a urgent colposcopy within 2 weeks and she didnt want me to wait for a smear test (its due about now) I didn't ask anything at the time I was in shock I suppose I've recieved my appointment for 13/12 but I can't stop worrying I'm terrified and over thinking everything. If anyone can offer any advice is he very grateful

I'm sorry to hear that you've been having some ongoing gynae problems. It sounds as if your GP has been really thorough which is great. It's natural to be a bit worried about going for further tests but try not to read too much into things at the moment.

I'm not sure if you've had a colposcopy before but is allows the Dr or nurse to have a better view of your cervix and to see what could be causing your problems. We've more information on our website here

If you've any questions that you specifically want to ask at the appointment on Friday then write them down before you go just incase you forget.

I hope all goes smoothly next week and that things improve for you soon.

    Best wishes,

  • are you ok ?

Hope you not worrying too much

  • Hi and thank you both for replying,

I'm ok.i think, trying to keep busy I've got 4 12 hour night shifts for the next four nights which will help. For the first few days it drove me insane my anxiety went into overdrive and it was all I could think about I also googled allot which probably didn't help I'm now trying to look on the positive side I've read about cervical ectroption (could be spelt wrong) and it sounds like it could be that so I'm just focussing on that rather than the big C! The only thing I know for certain is I won't know anything until Friday so no point catastrophising until then is there...

  • I have something similar, I had hysterectomy 5 years ago and starting having issues.

was referred for colposcopy and it really hurt and he found a mass where my cervix was or he said he’s not sure if they left something, it has gone like a whirlwind.

within 2 weeks I have had bloods biopsy and mri. Back next week to see consultant.

just scared and don’t know what to expect now.
