Pea size lump on toddlers neck

I was just wondering if anyone's babies/toddlers have had a lump before

It's a pea sized lump that moves under the skin on the left side of hes neck just slightly to the back when he turns he's head to the side it sticks out and then disappears when he's head is straight I'm really worried it could be cancer of some sort ?

  • Hi,

i totally understand your worries my daughter is 14 and has had hard pea sized nodes in her neck and groin since she was a toddler. She’s had several tests and they’re always ok she’s very thin so they’re more prominent and they said because she has eczema it could be from itching and breaking the skin.

It’s always best to get checked but not to panic yourself xx

  • Hi, I have just come across your post and wondered if you got the lump checked? My son is 5 and has the exact same thing. A noticable pea sized lump but on the right side instead. It cannot be seen when his head is facing forward.

Hope your little one is ok and it was nothing to worry about x

  • Hi my lovely, yes he had a scan and apparently it's just a lymph node that is prominent.

Its still there a year or more on and if it doesnt go by the time he's 4 I will definitely ask for a second opinion it doesn't seem to cause any discomfort at the moment but I will deffo keep an eye on it.

Worth asking for a referral for an ultrasound xx

    Hope all is ok x

  • Many thanks for getting back to me

I think I will definitely get it checked just for peace of mind. It doesn't seem to cause my son any discomfort when I have touched it either so hopefully it's just a little more prominent.

Hopefully my GP will see us as I know they haven't been the greatest during this pandemic

    Thanks again x

  • Hello

just to add a little reassurance, my 4 year old son has exactly this, he had an ultrasound at the end of feb! Checked the whole of his neck and then the lump and all is normal just a lymph node. His quite slim so more noticeable and it sits closer to the surface of his skin. I understand your worry from one mum to another, but try not to. Push for an ultrasound if it will help out your mind at ease. Good luck x

  • This is very reassuring, thank you!!

My son is fairly slim so hopefully it is just because of that.

I will definitely not let it stress me too much but get it checked just for peace of mind. It nice to know that it was taken seriously and your son had a scan recently.

Thanks for taking the time to reply xx
