Blood in breast cyst fluid

Hi,

Sorry for the long story, but I'm looking for some clarity regarding the things that my breast screening meant.

I felt a thickening and had some pain in my breast a few months ago. I went to my GP, who said they couldn't feel anything but gave me an urgent referral to the breast clinic because of the pain.

3 weeks later (yesterday) I went to the breast screening clinic, the doctor did and exam and said he wasn't worried and couldn't feel anything, but referred me to an ultrasound just incase.

In the ultrasound the technicians said the consultant had felt a lump. The lump appeared to be a cyst, and there were some small echos showing, I then had a Fine Needle Aspiration to see if the cyst drained, which it partially did, but there was blood in it.

I was told that the fluid had to be sent for testing and I'll receive a letter in 10 days with the results. I'm feeling really anxious and sore from the aspiration.

What can blood in a cyst mean? Are the echos in the cyst found in the ultrasound significant? Should the cyst have drained fully rather than partially?

I'm 24 and I don't know if I'm worrying over something that's standard.

Really appreciate any replies!

Many thanks
