Length of time from diagnosis to treatment

I first became aware of a change in one boob July 2019.  I'm 74 yrs old.  Following fast track breast clinic and being told tumour was small a wide excision with sentinel node biopsy was done on 30.8.19     waited 3 weeks for surgery

4 weeks later I was told I needed dissection of axillary lymph nodes.   Depending on result might need CT &bone scan

I requested a CT scan before surgery 4 weeks before any surgery.

Another 4 week wait for results and told cancer found in 9 lymph nodes.  When I asked about the CT scan the response was what scan!!

The scan hadn't been reported on 6 weeks It showed extensive  bone changes to spine, pelvis, sternum. Told bone metastasis.

2 weeks later saw Oncologist.  Started on Lexotrol tablets. Scans inconclusive need PETscan.  3 weeks later PET scan requested

5 weeks later starting radiotherapy

I would like to know.  Is there an ageism policy? Is this the norm?

  • Hello annitru

I'm sorry to hear that it's taken a while from your first seeing your GP to get your diagnosis and then to start treatment.

In the first instance if you're unhappy with treatment and the length of time you've had to wait then we would suggest contacting your hospital PALS department. They are there to help resolve concerns and problems and would be best placed to support you.

I do hope that things improve and that your treatment goes smoothly.

    Best wishes,
