Hi I'm Jacqui. 58 yrs old and have found a largish lump in my right breast on the upper outer side virtually a third along from my nipple to armpit. 3 weeks ago I felt a pain/ache to the right of my right breast. On looking I couldn't see anything but about 2 inches further up I found a lump. The lump feels like about 2.5 -3cm along and across but havnt a clue how deep it is. That night I checked again and it looked like a 1" vein had exploded where it had hurt earlier.

The next morning I rang to see a senior nurse on which I got in later that day. By the time I saw the nurse the vein was now a big very dark bruise. The nurse was insistent that it was a trauma of some sort and told me to leave it 2 weeks and come back to see the doctor if the lump hadn't gone. SHE made me an appointment to make sure I could get in to which I had to cancel if not needed. The bruising became much worse and covered the ride side of my breast. 2 weeks later it had subsided a lot but the lump was still there. I saw the doctor last Thursday 21st Nov ( luckily this doctor also is one of the breast cancer doctors at the hospital) I showed her the photographs i had taken of the bruising of which I hadn't a clue how I had got apart from this vein looking like it had burst. SHE immediately said you were right to come back and you need to go to the hospital for tests. The bruising or trauma was nothing to do with the lump. SHE sent an urgent referral and I go to the hospital for mammogram scan and biopsy on Thursday 5th Dec.

This waiting about not knowing is agony. You can't really say anything as up to yet I do not know if I have cancer. People say don't worry untill you know but how can you not worry as I might have it. Hopefully I don't but with all the ailments and illnesses I already have I wouldn't be shocked if breast cancer has been chucked at me also. I seem to be fighting different disabilities all the time in these last few years. Anyway just getting it all of my chest and hoping there's others who are in the position or can shed some info on what will happen next ECT and how long before you know for definite what you are dealing with. Even if waiting for results do the doctors give you any idea of what they think it is. Thanks in advance jacxxxx
