Pain in Lymph node AREAS but no swelling

I'm reaching out to anyone who can help or has any experience of any of the following.

Im 10 weeks into what started as a sore throat on one side when I teach. I teach quite long hours and at first, holding my neck helped to ease it.

This quickly escalated into constant aching on both side of my neck and inside my throat but deep down, losing my voice which is now quite hoarse and pain in my ears just below/behind ears. Pain in my left groin and left arm pit began.. although mild, with no swelling.

in the past 4 weeks I've become unbelievably fatigued and nauseous, I can't really go anywhere  without being totally wiped out. the neck/groin/under arm pain is unbearable and debilitating and I'm off teaching for the foreseeable.

My first Dr asked me if I thought I had cancer to which I laughed because that wasn't even on my mind. He was quite patronising and said come back in 5 weeks if it's still the same. I didn't last 5 weeks. After 2 I saw someone else. She has referred me to ent but not emergency and did bloods which showed nothing excerpt slightly raised LFT which she was not concerned about. She has given me a throat spray which was unhelpful as it's my neck that is unbearable and I can't teach as I have no voice and a dry irritating cough.

yeaterday she called me to go for a chest X-ray. I just don't underneath what's happening and I just want to know this will end or if anyone had anything similar. Im getting worried as each day I get worse and it seems never ending.

  • I had pain in my armpit  which turned out to be breast cancer. The doctors brushed me off saying breast cancer does not cause pain. I know from experience this is not true.

now I'm suffering from pain in the other armpit and I'm absolutely terrified it's cancer again.

also cannot stop feeling my neck for lumps. I am always tired out too.

  • Hi all,

All of these symptoms relate to me too! I'm so glad I'm not alone..

I have had pain in my lymph nodes for 4 months now. Started in one armpit then spread to the other.. Now I can feel it tingling down my arms. I suffer from very bad health anxiety. Faced my fears and had some bloods done a couple of months ago to be told it was fine but when they didn't follow up with me I lost my bravery to follow this up

Im at a point now where I'm telling myself the worst, I'm loosing months of quality of life and have done for years leading up to this due to health anxiety.

I feel for all of you going through similar too.

  • Hi, just read this message and was really surprised to see how many of these symptoms I've experienced. I've literally just come back from the doctors (which is a pretty constant occurrence) because of these problems I've been having (most stated above)

    1) Yes

    2) Yes

    3) Not so much bleeding but swelling

    4) No, I had a brown mark (almost birthmark like) appear before on the back of my arm which stayed for a couple of years but disappeared.

    5) Yes

    6) Yes

    7) Yes really badly

    8) No

    9) Yes

Would really appreciate if you had some extra info/further insight to what these are related to?

  • Hi Tmd3011,

In my case, the symptoms I mentioned seemed to be related to an active tooth infection. Given thet I had a root canal on that tooth, I didn't have any conssiderable ammount of pain. So, even though that infection was small, it went on for quite a lot of years. Over the years I started suffering from one symptom, then the next and the next until it was almost impossible to even fall asleep because of the tension and pain in the neck. Once I took the tooth out (plus a round of antibiotics) the worst symptoms went away fairly quickly and the rest have been getting better over time. I took care of the problem about 2 years ago and could say I'm 65% better, which is to say a lot.

So, did you have one or more root canals done? that could definitelly be the issue.

BTW, another indicator of this, but not mandatory and depends on your memory and how observant you are is if at any point after the root canal you had like a tiny blister in your gums, close to the treated tooth wich ended up popping, that blister may have come back a couple of times and popped again. If so, it's almost certain you now have a tiny (almost microscopic) hole in your gum where all the byproducts of the infection get released into your mouth, causing all sorts of things like inflamation, bleeding, amigdalitis/tonsillitis, bad breath, more plaque than usual near the tooth and some other.

Please let me know if this still rings a bell and we could continue discussing symptoms, but right of the bat, I can tell you, if you had one or more root canal treatments done in the past, this could be the cause of your problem. Which in all fairnes is kind of great news since we're discussing this in a cancer forum.

  • Hi I just wondered if u could tell me the symptoms u had that turned out to me dental pain x

  • Hi Hjward,

I'm not sure what you mean by that? As I said before, even though I had no pain due to having a root canal, I had numerous symptoms, most of which I described in an earlier post. The main reason for my symptoms was the underlying infection and not the pain, although I must confess, when I got anesthesia in order to treat the tooth, my neck stiffness/pain subsided substantially while its numbing effects lasted.

  • Hi, sorry for the extra late reply. I cannot see why you would get those symptoms after getting your tooth removed other than a bad procedure and the infection wasn't delt with, but I feel it's very very unlikely. Sorry I wasn't of much help.

  • Hi Leonardo,

I have most of the symptoms you listed in your earlier post last year and am struggling to find a cause. I have also had two root canals in the last 4 years. I would be very interested to hear how your issue was finally diagnosed? Also, how exactly was it treated? Any information gratefully received.

    many thanks

  • Hi islantree,

To be honest these kind of things are very difficult to diagnose. After suffering from those symptoms and some more for many years, I I got to that conclusion after whatching a documentary about it and heard so many things that ringed many bells. Anyway, sadly the only solution to that problem is tooth removal. Thankfully I had the means to afford a dental implant and wasn't so bad. But I would avise to discuss the issue much more before going that route, since we don't want to be removing theeth before being at least fairly certain. I'm available to chat more directly if you really think your issue deseves it. In my case, I believe it basically saved my life, but that was after more than a decade of that root canal, and not everybody's end up being so bad. .

  • I have a lot of these same symptoms and ear/jaw pain just started this week. Neither GP nor dentist have found any glaring issues but I can't do many tests as I am almost 9 months pregnant.

What did your symptoms amount to?
