Biopsy results- standard practice?

I had a biopsy last week following a post menopausal bleed. I was telephoned by the hospital who have received the results (after 7 days). I've been given an appointment for a follow up, but worryingly i was 'advised' to take someone with me. They even asked who it would be.

Is this standard practice? Why would they say this?

    Hi Anonymous,

This is common practice. We all get so het up at the time that we are given the results that we only ever take in a small proportion of the conversation. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 10 years. I hhave also had a few false alarms, but the procedure is always the same regardless of the outcome.

I would always advise to take someone with you and to write down any questions you may have.

I sincerely hope that your tests haven't shown up anything untoward.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
