Ultrasound over CT Scan

Hi

I have been having stomach pain and nausea for 4 months now.  I have been treated fot a stomach ulcer but endoscope noted nothing apart from some sores in oesophagus.  Doctor has said and advised that i should preferably go for an urgent CT scan but thinks the hospital will only send me for an ultrasound.

This moning i received an appointment for an ultrasound for my abdomen.

From what i hear a CT scan is more accurate but obviously more expensive.  However i need to know for sure if I've got something or not.

Should I phone the hospital and ask for a CT scan or just accept I have to have the lesser check.  Thing is if the ultrasound fails to see anything and i carry on with the same symptoms will they do a CT afterwards.

Thanks for any advice.

    Hi Stevo,

Welcome to the forum, although I'm sorry to hear why you're here. Most of us on this site are cancer pilgrims or carers. We are not medically trained, so cannot answer your question.

The best thing to do is to ask the nurses on this forum, or phone them on 0808 800 4040. They are available Mon-Fri from 9.00 am - 5.00pm. You could also discuss this with your GP.

I would expect that a CT would be the next procedure to carry out if your symptoms continue after your ultrasound, but it may depend from one area to another.

I hope that you find some answers soon. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine
