extremely abnormal ovarian cyst

hi sorry. bit of a long post.

i have been having a lot of issues for a while now. periods every 2 weeks some months. A LOT of clear stringy discharge. spotting. pelvic pain that radiates into my groin and down into my thigh. iv also had a very bad back.

i went to  the docs about 6 weeks ago. and saw a new doc. shes the 1st one that has put all my symptoms together.  they sent an urgent referal off to gyny but didnt put all the symptoms on there. the gyny looked at referal and sent me for colposcopy and it was left at that and was discharged. so i phoned the docs again last wednesday because i hadnt heard anything and they sent a referal off for urgent ultrasound. they phoned Monday with a scan for next day. so i had an ultrasound and transvaginal scan done tuesday. the transvaginal hurt really bad. it was so tender where my ovary was. the technician said she could see my fallopian tubes which they dont usually see and she thinks there could be some fluid in them. she said she couldnt tell me about anything else that was found and that my gp would have the results by Thursday and that they would want to speak to me about them.

they rang 1st thing this morning (friday)  have an 'extremely strange abnormal cyst' (docs words) on my ovary which has different textures to it. shes urgently referring me to gynycology under the urgent suspected cancer route. the cyst is only 23mm x 18mm so not that big.  I also have raised levels of prolactin.

has anyone else experienced this and how did it turn out for you?

Wishing you all the best with the gynaecology referral Bethan.

  • Hi Bethan

Sorry your having to go through this, the waiting is stressful and makes one feel a bit helpless.

My cysts are maybe less unusual but one is 18cm so a mass of that size could be classed as unusual and unlike you I've had no symptoms just couldnt lose weight. I also have an elevated ca125 of 130. However got my call back last week and despite the size of the mass it appears benign thankfully... obviously an oporation is now planned to remove them and I'll go from there.

I realise they may not be quite the same but I hope it gives you some peace of mind to know that with the wonders of medicine things can turn out ok

  • hi thanks for replying!

wow thats so big. hopefully they take it out soon. strange how something so big can grow on something so small isnt it. i had a 4cm one when i was a teenager so this time its smaller. would of thought it was too small to cause all the problems iv been having though.

my ca125 came back ok. not sure what number. so i guess that's a good sign,  although the doc did say that it isnt always raised and can still be cancer.

afterwards i did think that maybe it could be a dermoid cyst as that has different textures (bone, hair, teeth) but then thought that they could tell if it was that on the scan amd the go probably would of said if it was
