High grade dyskaryosis

Hi I've recently had my first smear which has come back as high grade (severe) dyskaryosis.
I have an appointment Tuesday for a colposcopy but I am absolutely terrified of what they will find. I have small children and just keep thinking about them and how would I tell them if I was going to be really poorly!
I've read up about it and from what I can see a lot of people who have this are fine once it's been removed. I think I'm more worried at the fact when I was pregnant with my second child my midwife found a lump on my cervix, she advised me to go for a smear once I'd had baby. I went to the doctors after and told them about it for them to say I couldn't have a smear just because of that and that he's sure it would be nothing and probably just a little cyst! But how can he be so sure and what if this has been something all this time (2years)

I am so petrified!

  • Hello Yakka12 and welcome to our forum

I just wanted to wish you the best of luck for your appointment on Tuesday. We have information on our website about the colposcopy to help you prepare for it - you can find out more on this page.

Try not to worry too much - what you have read is accurate and I hope you will meet some of these ladies who have had successful treatment for high grade dyskaryosis and that they will reassure you. When you have your colposcopy, it may be worth mentioning this lump on your cervix that was mentioned by your midwife and whether a specialist could take a look at it.

I hope it all goes well for you on Tuesday!

    Best wishes,
