Worried about my Dad- Potential bowel cancer?

Hello, I am looking for some advice and reassurance please. My dad has been exhibiting symptoms of bowel cancer-  Initially it was a case of going to the toilet more frequently and this gradually happened over a period of months and then suddenly he developed a severe change in bowel habit (diarrhea several times a day and a couple accidents) at which point he visited his GP who noticed his swollen and tender stomach, GP said his bowel is inflamed. He has also been experiencing sickness and back pain. He is 59 years old. He had blood tests taken and stool sample taken which both came back as abnormal therefore he was urgently referred for a colonoscopy which is tomorrow and I am unable to sleep with worry. I have been reading things online where it states that during the colonoscopy they will be able to see and identify cancer and inform the patient immediately there and then of the findings. I am looking for clarification of this. Has anyone else who has been diagnosed with bowel cancer found out anything on the day of a colonoscopy and if so do you have any suggestions of what questions we should be asking. I want to be as prepared as possible for worst case scenario whilst hoping for the best. Thank you so much in advance.
