‘Bruising’ on cervix

Hello!

i am just wondering whether anyone's had anything similar. Btw I am not concerned it is cancer-related necessarily (I'm not really worried!) I just thought someone might have had a similar experience.

In a recent screening, I bled for 5 days after smear. I saw a GP who thought it would be an ectropion (that's what the nurse said) but she said the cervix looks fine but there's some 'sort of bruise looking patch on it'. Has anyone else had that?

I have a 2-week referral, but wondered about other experiences. Other things to note: haven't had sex for 2 months, have irregular/no periods, don't wear tampons and the smear test didn't hurt.

thank you xxx

  • Tanya I have 2 kids and my 1st I was to have an emergency section as my Cervix wasnt complying to me giving birth naturally. I had to have my 2nd planned section due to this reason and was told my cervix was unable formed to give birth naturally as too thin? I felt silly posting as it is aimed at Cancer & the fear of cancer. I feel like om jumping to conclusions fast and it will be ok on the end but u panok when u get told they are referring u and something not right. Watch this space we will be posting in theworry worts section soon lol. I'd defo push for an explanation abt what the treatment is for as ur still young enuf to try for more kids & Droppet I feel for u as ur worry will be will tube safe to have kids and I cant imagine what u will be thinking. Hope everybody gets seen fast & everything turns out well. Xx

  • Didn't mean to say tube was just meant to be the word be

  • Thank you that's really kind and very helpful x

  • Hello, I know this is an old post, but I just wondered what your outcome was? I've just been to see my dr for bleeding and spotting after intercourse. The dr said I had a small bruise type patch on my cervix and had sent me for a referral to the cancer dept. She said she's done it that was, as the other route can take 8 weeks. I'm absolutely terrified!! I had a normal smear 8 months ago, and have always had normal one. But I feel sick with worry. Really need some reassurance!

    Thank you.

  • Hi.

During a routine smear the nurse was concerned as she noticed a bruise on my cervix. She called a doctor for a second opinion who performed a second smear and also some swabs, although I have no idea what the swabs were for.  My smear results came back clear but I have been referred to the cancer unit for a colposcopy.  My original smear was on 25th August and the first appointment they could offer me is 24th October.  So 2 months of worrying and not knowing what, if anything, is wrong with me.  I previously went to the doctor around 4 years ago as I was concerned about increased discharge and sometimes intercourse was painful but was told it was just my age.  I am currently not sexually active and wasn't using tampons leading up to the examination which detected the bruise so I have no idea how I have bruising.  I would really appreciate it if you could let me know how you got on as I'm still waiting and worrying about what it could be.

    Many thanks

  • Hello,

Did you have your colposcopy? How did you get on?

I have just been to the Dr and they too have referred me for a colposcopy as there is a bruise and I have had spotting but like you I know it's not from trauma.

Thank you - hope you are ok

  • Hi

Yes I had the colposcopy and it was all completely normal and fine.  They think that the nurse who carried out my smear test must have caught my cervix when she inserted the speculum.

I hope everything goes well for you too, I know how worrying it is.

    Best wishes

  • Thank you for getting back to me. I'm so pleased that all turned out well.

one last question (sorry) - what was the time scale between your smear and noticing the bruising?

    thank you

  • It was straight away while she was performing the smear.  She called another nurse and a doctor to have a look and they both thought that she may have caught me with the speculum but she didn't think that she had.  Unfortunately I then had to wait 2 months for the colposcopy worrying myself sick.

  • Ah I see.

So you bruised immediately as she did the smear?
    Thank you
