Nervous, enlarged right tonsil

Hi to everyone,

I went to the doctor's a week ago and she said my right tonsil was enlarged. Tried a week of antibiotics and went back this morning where she said she would refer me to ENT as an urgent  case because the tonsil has not reduced.

Fast forward to lunch and I have a voicemail saying she has checked the guidelines as it will be a 2 week referral which has frightened the life out of me. I have no symptoms just a large tonsil and sometimes an ear pop but now I am panicking about what this means. Obviously Google doesn't help and one of the websites said could have HPV which my last smear test was positive for, still waiting for results of my most recent one.  I don't drink or smoke so just worried.

I don't really know what I want from this forum but just need to vent my apprehension and hope that anyone could shed some positivity on my right now.

Many thanks

Babym

  • Hi Babym,

Sorry to hear of your symptoms but there can be many reasons for this and the majority are not sinister at all. Its good to get checked by a specialist rather than GP as outwith their skillset and hopefully nothing to worry about.

It's good we get quick referals and although can be daunting re 2 weeks notice, NHS times for treatment are good and quicker seen to the better.
Please try and stay off google as there is so much mis information out there as well as being out of date.
It's also easy to self diagnose with all sorts on there and better trying to avoid and ENT will keep you right.

Let me know how you get on with appointment and take from there and also just let me know if you have any more questions or if I can help any further

    kind regards

    Ian
