Smear Test - really scared

Hi all,

I'm sorry if this has been previously discussed but I'm very anxious at the moment and don't have anyone to talk to.

I had a smear test about 3 weeks ago and today my GP surgery phoned to say the doctor would like to speak to me by phone.

I'm absolutely petrified as to what it could be, I do have anxiety issues and its not helping that I have to wait until Nov 25th to speak with the doctor.

Surely if it was very serious I wouldn't have to wait that long? I feel sick to my stomach. My results have always come by letter.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

  • Hello Annamckd,

I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you while waiting to speak to the doctor.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious. It won't be long now until the 25th when you get a little more clarity on all this.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything is fine and the phone call  with the doctor goes well.

    Best wishes,
