Awaiting news from MDT - my story & questions

Hi,

I've recently undergone some testing at the hospital. I found a lump in my neck (right side, above collarbone) in July this year, and finally went to see the GP about it last month (4th Oct). The lump is over 2cm, immovable, hard and painless. I was sent for a blood test the next day and an ultrasound was requested for me. Bloods came back fine.

Here's where it gets stressful. Exactly a month later (4th Nov) I go for my ultrasound at the hospital. The lovely lady performing the scan seemed a bit concerned (my paranoia at the time probably). She had a really, really good look and it felt like I was on that table forever. Lots of clacking on keyboard taking screenshots of whatever she was seeing. She said that the nodule I'd found wasn't the only swollen lymph node. She wanted to do a biopsy then, and labelled it as "urgent". She said she wanted me back in for a CT scan the next day. As soon as I get home, they ring me to confirm my scan appt. I go in for that.

The very next day, after the CT, my GP rings me to book me in to discuss my ultrasound result (alarmingly fast?). I'm back there the next day. Stress levels really rocketing now. My Dr wanted to let me know that the results were concerning, that the larger nodule has got calcification in it, and that other nodules are swollen abnormally. My whole case has been referred to a MDT. I should hear back within 2 weeks or so.

I've now been signed off work for these 2 weeks to try to get my emotional state together. It's all happened so fast. I'm only 24 so I was never expecting to go through something like this so soon.

Can anyone tell me what to expect? Does this sound like it could just be something small and easily solved? Does anyone out there have a similar story to mine? The waiting, telling my friends and family, telling my colleagues and managers, just makes this way too surreal and scary for me.

Thanks for taking the time to read.

  • Hello Rhi

Welcome to the forum and I'm sorry to hear about the health concern that you've been dealing with recently.

We know that waiting for tests and results can be a particularly stressful time and it's natural for you to be feeling a bit worried by things.

Unfortunately it's impossible for us to be able to answer your question about what may be causing your lymph nodes to have swollen. Hopefully though once your results have been discussed at the MDT meeting the Dr's will be a position to answer your questions.

If you'd like to talk things through with one of our team of nurses please do give them a call on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm).

    Best wishes,
