Breast clinic referral fears

I guess I'm looking for anyone with similar symptoms to myself having had an urgent referral to the breast clinic, by my GP this morning.

I've had tender breasts for weeks, but noticed it was far more on the left side. The right is back to normal. The left has a nugget type lump just above the areola. The areola is now darker and sunken in. It's sore and a bit itchy.

Has anyone experienced this, or struggling with the awful wait? Urgent apps. are 2 weeks wait, but they do all tests in one day and can give biopsy results on the day. I think this is quite good. The worry is tough, especially as I'm a lone parent with a 7 year old.

  • Thanks. Appointment is at 8.30am. My mam is visiting and is covering school run so one less thing to think about! I'll update post when I can.

  • Result from today is so far, so good, but not over yet!

So I had an examination, an ultrasound and a standard mammogram. I was called back in for a 2nd mammogram to take pictures of the left hand side, then another ultrasound with two consultants. The outcome is the lump/mass aren't cysts, but likely benign. I now need a biopsy to determine what the issue is and eliminate the possibility of cancer completely. As the breast is inflamed ive been given a 2nd course of antibiotics and return next Friday for a biopsy.

I'm more or less relieved, yet disappointed to have to wait another week for biopsy. Just want an all clear understandably. Very sore and emotional so off for a lie down.

Hoping the ladies in the thread have appointments through. Let me know how you're getting on.

  • Hi [@MiniMum81]‍

So pleased for you that it's looking like benign lumps and that the scan didn't show anything indicating towards cancer. I bet the whole experience was nerve wracking, especially getting you for another scan for a second opinion. How are you feeling? I bet your relieved but also bet you wish you could put this to bed completely. Did they say after biopsy how long it takes for results?

I haven't got my appointment through yet, I'm guessing it will be by letter? I'd love it to be as soon as possible as I'm going out my mind!

  • Hi I have to take antibiotics for one week and return for biopsy next week. So yes, it isn't completely over with. The appointment was a long 4 hours so I'm resting while I have childcare.

You must be frazzled not having an appointment date, but no harm in chasing up? Hope you're okay. Let me know how you are and hold fast.

I've began a new thread to see if anyone's scans appear benign and biopsy show different. I feel like if it was completely ok, I wouldn't need biopsy next week? Overthinking again!

  • Ah yes I have seen your new post and I'm following. It's perfectly  natural to over think, I think all of us would be the same as you as you just want to put it to bed but everything they said sounds really good so try and focus on that - easier said than done I know. I find because my mind is my devil with all this it focuses on the negatives and what ifs, after an appointment I now write down in my phone what the doc said and every time I read it, it reminds me of the positives that were said - we are quick to forget the good things that they say. Especially weeks down the line as the memory of the appointment disappears. This is my experience anyway. Roll on next week for you. I've been told I will get my appointment as a letter so I hope it hurries and comes soon :(

  • Hi I saw my GP on Monday 11th November and got my letter today the 15th November and my appointment is on Tuesday 26th of November  hope you hear soon and all goes well.

  • I hope all goes well glad you got seen quick and the biopsy goes well and the results are good news thinking of you keep us updated on how you get on. I have my appointment come through today it's on Tuesday 26th of November I have to go for a mammogram first and then the clinic. Hopefully get all the tests done in one day. Feeling less anxious now I have a date. Take care.

  • Luckily my partner was with me so can relay back the information when I start to worry. He feels the same though, after a whole morning of worry and tests, to have to return in a week's time is frustrating. Still, the consultant knows best and the staff were so thorough and caring.

On top of all of this I've had an MRI on Wednesday relating to my congenital heart defect so waiting for results of that too. It's all a bit much to be honest. Just focusing on my bubbly 7 year old!

I hope your letter comes soon and keep me posted x

  • It's interesting just having an actual date lightens the load. I'm glad you haven't too long to wait. Where are you based?

Thanks for your support and let me know how you get on. I'm now just trying to focus on nice things like getting getting ready for Christmas with my wee son.

    Have a good weekend x
