Awaiting biopsy results, my anxiety is through the roof

So a few months ago I found some lumps in my neck, got sent for an ultrasound then to a consultant and was told nothing to worry about but they will remove them anyway as they kept letting inflamed (good news) between times I found out I was pregnant so couldn't go in for the operation but they sent be back for a routine ultrasound on my neck to check the progress of the lumps. The consultant biopsied them there and then (much to my surprise) despite last being told they didnt need a biopsy. So anyway, I'm 3 weeks in, have another 2 weeks till my follow up appointment and I rang the hospital today to see if I could have the results over the phone...they said as i have a follow up appointment that my results would be given face to face. Now I'm FREAKING OUT. If there was nothing wrong surely they'd tell me and I can cancel the follow up?? I'm so confused and scared I haven't told anybody as I domt want people to worry but I need to talk to someone.

  • Hi

Waiting to receive the results can feel very feel stressful and make you feel even more anxious.

Many on this forum understand only too well how you're feeling as they have also had similar experiences and we're certain they will share their stories with you!

We hope your appointment goes well and that you find out soon exactly what is causing your symptoms.

    Best Wishes

Hospital rang today and said consultant has requested they book an appointment as soon as possible so will find that out tomorrow. Spent all day yesterday being told "if it was anything to worry about they'd get you in sooner" now that's exactly what they're doing people still think I'm silly for worrying?! Help!

  • I was diagnosed with Head and Neck cancer (tonsillar) in early May 2019.  As i awaited those long weeks for my biopsy results i read this forum religiously.  One piece of information to me was from a contributor to this page and it said.  When you go in for the result of the biopsy, if there is a Macmillan nurse in the room beside the consultant, you can be sure you have cancer.   The nurse will be dressed in civilian wear and have a little badge with her name on it.

I wish you the very best with your biopsy results and your future journey.

    Best Wishes Stella   xx

  • A few months ago now I had biopsies taken from my womb, I was told I would get an appointment through for 2 weeks time for the results which I recieved.

But! one afternoon, a good week before the appointment, I got a phone call from a specialist nurse.... massive panic... she asked if I could go in the following morning.......

I said... is it bad news then? and she said not necessarily .... I asked if the biopsy results were back and she said she couldn't discuss them over the phone! that was it, I was in a right state, she was trying to keep me calm overnight.

I went to the appointment the day after, just about in tears in the waiting room. Specialist nurse was hanging about and kept looking at me.

When I was eventually called in, in tears by this time.... first thing the doctor said was... your biopsies were fine... we just got you in to say we'd like to get you in for a camera test just to be 100%.....

My god! why do they do this? We always think the worst but if she would have just told me on the phone that biopsies were fine, it would have saved us so much pain and worry.

    Good luck with your investigations.
