Terrified I have lung cancer after abnormal xray

Hi everyone I wanted to know if anyone has been in the same situation . I have asthma and have been very short of breath (different to my usual asthma) for about a year or so. No other symptoms . I am 42 and smoked for twenty years gave up about 5 years ago . I had an X-ray about a year ago which was normal . Since then I have been fighting for help with what I thought what my asthma put if control . I was finally referred to respiratory who repeated the X-ray . They then called me this week to say there is an abnormality on it which wasn't there on previous X-ray . Apparently it is an area of haziness . They are booking a ct chest quickly . I now am starting to panic as to what this abnormality is . I am a nurse and so I probably know too much .. has anyone had this same situation?

  • Hi Jmor,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. Firstly it's good that you're getting this checked out and that you got the referral. I can imagine this feels quite worrying but I hope it's not too long for you to wait to find out more. From there you will have more information to work with which will hopefully help to ease the feeling of uncertainty.

If anyone here has experienced something similar then hopefully they'll be along here soon. Meanwhile do feel free to use this forum to write down any thoughts or worries - it's a very welcoming community of people.

    Wishing you all the best,
