Groin pain

Hi I’m wondering if anyone can give my any ideas. I’m not panicking I’m just getting mildly worried. For three months I have had a pain in my groin spreading out to top of leg. I am having physio which is doing nothing. But physio and dr say it’s muscular. It only hurts when I lift my leg to get into a car. Getting dressed. Going up stairs. If someone lifts my leg for me it doesn’t hurt only when I have to bear the weight myself. I’m not particularly active. But I do a lot of driving. It’s not going away and I’m starting to get concerned. Should I ask for a scan/mri? Mum died 3 months ago from a mis diagnosed cancer so you can see where my brain is starting to go. She had a bad back. And was told “just muscular” I won’t go into details as I don’t want to frighten anyone. Any ideas would greatly help. Thank you

  • Hey there, so sorry to hear about your mum.

Your head must be going all over the place with things.

It's reassuring two people have said that it is muscular but I can see why you're concerned with your mum's misdiagnosis etc.

If you're still worried you can definitely ask for a secon opinion. Don't feel bad about asking!

And I would keep a symptom diary so you've got a bit more back up next time you see a GP. E.g. how often are you taking painkillers? Do they help? What time of day is worse? Has it gotten worse since it started?

It might be worth asking if there are any steps they would take to rule out other things e.g would they do bloods or a ultrasound.

Unfortunately groin pain can be so many things and I imagine a load of the time it is simply muscular so that's why they've said that but you've every right to continue to get another opinion etc.

They thought I had a ruptured ovarian cyst for a while, because I had groin back and pelvis pain.

I hope you manage to get some treatment that helps you.

    Wishing you all the best

    Rose

  • Thank you for your reply. It's not painful enough evdn to take painkillers. It only hurts when I lift my leg. It's just there at certain leg movements. It's not getting worse just the same pain with the same leg movement. If I don't lift my leg it doesn't hurt at all.  My hip can ache sometimes. I think ill

go to dr again tomorrow and ask for a scan of some sort

    thank you again.

  • Hi Beach45 I hope all is well? I'm replying to you because I have the exact same issue as you have described, I had it a few months now and it isn't getting any better, I was wondering if you ever found out what the cause was as my mind has taken the same route as yours... one of my uncles passed some years ago from cancer that originated in the pelvic area. I'm going to see my GP tomorrow but I'm doubtful he will put my mind to rest at all.

  • Hi there.  Well the dr said it was just muscular. I had some physio which didn't make much difference.  But it comes and goes. I've had it now for 16 months.  It's definitely a lot better though. But not 100%.  Possibly just age and wear and tear on my muscles. Hope you get some answers.

  • I'm 16 years old I've got the exact same really painful when I've been for a walk it's been going on for 3 months it gets really bad where I can't walk or get off the sofa my biggest fear is being unwell or dying I also have pain at the bottom of my stomach with it and all down my leg

  • Hi I was reading your symptoms there and are of similar to mine did you get any answers on it ??
