Neck lump

I really don't want to waste anyone's time but I'm afraid

There's this lump on my neck and I'm scared it's cancer.

It is moveable and I've never had pain and it hasn't grown in months but it's bothering me a lot, I'm only 17

I will admit that I've been on Google which hasn't helped

I have an ultrasound on my neck on the 18th and I'm just so frightened that it's my lymph node and its chance.

Everyone is telling me it's just a fatty lump or a cyst and I would be inclined to believe them if I didn't have suck bad health anxiety.

I can accept that it could be cancer but I also kinda just want to know other alternatives that it could be so I'm not going crazy over the next 10 days

I'm sorry the format is bad I just wanted each point to be clear so it's not a jumble

  • Hi, I've literally just been through this and had my ultrasound yesterday and thankfully got the all clear. I also was beyond scared and wondering what else it could be, but didn't seem to have characteristics of anything else other than cancer! I'm a single mum to 2 young children and had been going out of my mind. I had also had a sore throat for weeks which added to my anxiety. I had a camera up my nose (not pleasant!) And he asked if I drank much water, I said no, he said the sore throat is most likely down to dehydration! He said the lump because it was close to my dry itchy scalp (has been itchy for months) was like down to it swelling due to nearby irritation or infection. He then said we'll ultrasound to check which they did an hour after. The sonographer did a really good check but said it's swollen but normal! She also said it looks like it's swollen from a past infection but never went down and may never do. She checked all my neck and throat which was fine. My blood tests also came back clear. I'm now going to try and look after myself a bit better! Really hope all goes ok with your ultrasound, let us know how you get on x

  • Thi sis very reassuring,  back in July I had a bad chest infection which didn't help because of my asthma and that's when I first noticed the lump. The fact that they can swell up and never go down is reassuring as I found that nowhere online

    Thankyou

  • You're welcome and hopefully that helps put your mind at ease a bit, fingers crossed for you it's the same thing x
