Chondrosarcoma

Hi, I have been referred to a specialist for a likely 2cm sarcoma in my right fibula head.  I am scared beyond belief and can't stop Googling the life out of it.  I keep being told by family and friends to try not to worry but easier said than done. I don't have am appointment until next Wednesday, seems so far away. Any advice much appreciated thank you, Kathy

  • Hiya,

Sorry to hear this. I'm not medically qualified but have also been googling a lot about sarcoma, as I have a "suspicious" mass in my leg - it's in the soft tissue, though, so not the bone type.

I expect you have already read that Chondrosarcoma can be low grade, and once it's removed you might not have any recurrence or further spread.

Have they given you any more information about the type they think it might be?

It is really good that you've been referred because the regional centres know what they are doing and will look after you properly. Do keep in mind that about 80% of referrals to the Sarcoma service nearest to me, at least, turn out not to be malignant at all. There are a lot of things that present in a similar way.

Really hope that you are worrying unnecessarily, but I completely understand how you feel. Also there aren't that many people here who post about sarcoma, probably because it is so unusual, so I hope that reassures you a bit that it could well be something else.

    Sending good thoughts

  • Hi AK

Thank you so much for getting back to me.  I have an appointment next Weds so hopefully I am getting somewhere.  I took some peace of mind yesterday after again googling and discovered that most sarcomas don't even get diagnosed until they are between 10cm and 15cms. Mine is 2cms.

Sorry to hear you have a mass on your leg.  Hopefully you will get some good news as well.

    Thanks again for replying

    Take care

  • Good Afternoon,

I'm just scrolling through and noticed that you have a suspicious mass in your leg possible soft tissue Sarcoma. I also had a Sarcoma on my thigh which was removed in September I'm now 6 weeks post op and doing really well doing light gym work.

If you need any help or advice just let me now here to help.

    Karl.

  • Hi Kathy, no problem. I hope it goes OK and you get some reassuring news - I think you're right, and from what I know the smaller tumours are normally the less aggressive sort.

Let us know how you get on x x

Karl, really nice to hear from you - do you mind if I ask a question?

I've been offered a biopsy where they remove the lump, but I'm a bit worried about it being done locally because I've read it should be taken out with a wide margin by someone with experience of sarcoma - just in case.

Did you have yours removed at a regional centre, or was it done by your local hospital?

    Thanks in advance

    AK

  • Hi AK,

I had my biopsy, treatment and operation at a specialist Sarcoma hospital. The tumour was  high grade and fully removed with clear margins.

    Karl.

  • Thanks Karl, and that sounds like great news. I hope you continue to recover, it sounds like you are well on the way back to health.

Nice to meet you on here anyway.

  • Likewise  Angie, It does help chatting to people going through the same challenges. Wish you all the best.
