Inverted nipples at 16 !!!

Hi ,

I have always grown up with inverted nipples and I know it is common for young teenagers to have inverted nipples however they never come out even if its cold. I am starting to get a bit more concered as sometimes I get a little lump in my breasts but this is only around the time of my period .

I feel anxious to ask any questions in person to my GP so I don't really know what to do !

Any responses appreciated ,

Thanks !

  • Hi Puppy123

I found a lump in my breast about 6 month ago and went straight to my GP to be checked. I am only 24 so, like yourself (even though you are much younger) have never had any personal meetings with a doctor.

I ensured I got a female doctor.. maybe this would help you too. If it's not possible at your GP surgery, you could always ask and I'm sure they'd arrange.

Hormones play a big part in the way our breasts grow and develop, especially at an age when hormones are up and down. May I ask, is it around the time you are expecting a period? I ask because when I found my lump, they said I needed to come back when I was mid cycle as being on your period can make your body do crazy things!!

Please go and see a GP.. they were wonderful with me. They will know it's a nerve wracking time and are so patient and understanding. Don't feel embarrassed either.. they will have seen plenty boobs and plenty more to come :) it will honestly make you feel so much better. I also got referred to breast screening as my lump didn't disappear within 6 weeks. I was there 3 hours, saw 2 doctors and got an ultrasound. Just a fatty lump! But they made me know that I absolutely done the right thing to get it checked out. And even told me if I still feel worried or anxious, just to go back and see them

if possible, talk to a mother, sister, grandparent, friend.. or message me anytime.

    take care

    Bx

  • Hi Goc94 ,

relating to your question the lump comes around the time of my period yes and then will become a bit smaller during different times and then will come back agian when I’m on next . It’s just very confusing and sometimes it’s larger and sometimes it’s smaller .

I have spoken to my mum about this however she told me it was just m hormones however I still feel anxious about the whole sitaultion.

    Thankyou for your reply !

  • Your Mam is probably just trying to help put your mind at ease.. however I know how it feels when nothing anyone will say will take your mind off it.

In the morning, ring your GP and say you're concerned about a lump. They will 100% get you seen to that day.. it is extremely rare for someone of your age to get breast cancer, but it is so easy to just go and get that confirmation

I totally understand you're anxious and nervous, but you can do it. We're women, we're strong and we help each other out.

  • Thankyou so much that has helped a lot ! xx

  • Hi  puppy123 I am 14 and haven't even had a period and i have inverted nipples I dont want to get it checked out because I'm to embarrassed I am still trying to figure out why I have inverted nipples they hurt sometimes and it feels hard around everything and I dont think that's right I dont know what to do.

Thanks for reading I hope people respond to this so I know I'm not the only one.

  • Hi,

I am embarrassed about them too. I am 15 and noticed them not looking 'normal' when I was about 12. I asked my mum and she said they would develop overtime but it is 3 years later and they are still the same. It can take some people more time to develop due to genes or hormones so just wait until you have finished puberty and if they are still the same possibly talk to someone.

please don't feel like you are the only one because you aren't. I'm sure there are many girls you know who are hiding it due to embarrassment.

I hope this helped you feel better about yourself :)

    Hi Puppy, Kawaiifoxx1 & Pinkpeppermint654,

You are all developing women and our bodies all change, particularly when your perod is due. If you are at all worried it is always worth talking to Mums and then to your GPs to allay your fears. You can always ask for a female doctor if you feel embarrassed. They, like us, have been through these changes and understand the worry that they cause. They see women with breast problems regularly, so this is just routine work for them and there is no need at all to feel embarrassed about being seen. They will usually ask about your symptoms and then ask you to remove your bra so that they can examine your breasts.

If there is the slightest suspicion of anything untoward, they will refer you to the breast clinic for further examination and tests. I am not a doctor, but would urge you to speak to one, even if only to put your minds to rest. The people at the breast clinic do these examinations and tests all day every day, so will not be phased in the slightest. They are very pleasant and understanding of your feelings. This is the only way to know for certain that all is ok. Whilst it is most unlikely that there is anything nasty there at your ages, it is not impossible, so it is always best to be safe rather than sorry.

Do please let us know how you all get on. We are always here for you all.

Here's hoping that these are all just natural hormonal changes.

    Kindest regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi I’m the same at the moment but I am 14 and it’s all of a sudden done it?‍♀️

  • Hi,

I'm 14 but one of my nipples will be inverted and then one won't and it's always changing but usually only the right one will come out and the left one will stay inverted idk if this is nor,al as I've found nothing online about it and I'm scared.

im too anxious to tell my mum though and definitely not telling a go because it's so awkward what if I'm just making a fuss over nothing.

  • I think we are the same person. Mine are really tender when pressed
