Recurrence of abnormal cells

Several years ago I had abnormal cells removed from cervix successfully.  My most recent smear is abnormal again and I have another hpv infection.  I'm 66 and wondering what the prognosis is now - should I opt for more radical treatment?  Maybe I'm over reacting but have to think about the future as I have a dependant daughter who relies on my care so I need to stay healthy.

If you have abnormal cells, which are precancerous, not cancer, it is likely that they would simply be removed again and you would be monitored. Do you have an appointment to go back for treatment? The treatment would depend on the level of abnormality. xx

  • yes, thanks for your reassuring reply - I should stop reading stuff on  the internet and overthinking things! (not having anyone to talk to about it at home makes it tricky for me.)   I'm sure it'll be fine - I'm waiting for an appointment to come through at present. I know removal is going to be tricky due to the way things are there after last removal - all attached now to the vaginal wall - but no doubt they'll find a solution. I'll make sure I write down my questions ready for when I go.  All the best.  B

Defintely stop googling stuff. I was too scared to google, so never did it and I’m glad. All you will get is worst case scenario stuff and outdated information. Best to stick to reputable sites like this and speak to real people with real experience.

I’m sure your doctors will be able to resolve this, and I hope you don’t have to wait too long for the appointment. Best wishes for good results! xx
