Advice please

I found a lump in my lower right area of my breast just where the wire from bra sits.... i called the doctor on the monday, said i definately have a hard lump there but the fact it is moveable is a positive sign... but she will refer me for a 2ww appointment. At 2 weeks i called as i hadnt heard anything, turned out the gp didnt include enough information sp had to re refer me and it will be another 2 weeks...

Got an appointment tuesday just gone... doc examined me, had a ultrasound scan done and they said they think its a fibroadenoma, then the nurse doing the scan put the colour doppler on and under her breath said i wasnt expecting that... i was facing the screen and there was a little red patch in my scan. They then done a biopsy. After my biopsy i saw mt doctor again and everything i asked i got told hopefully not, have to wait for the results.. i asked abouth the red patch on the scan and she avoided the question.

Im awaiting the results and wont get them until 12th november... but i would just appreciate some honest atories or advice. As everyone i googled red patch on doppler and breast cancer comes up

I would much rather have a inkling before going in to my appointment on 12th. Just so it doesnt come to much as a shock and i can think now of things to ask or speak about and if its all positive then fantastic.

Im 29... 3 weeks off my 30th birthday. No kids... history of breast cancer in family on dad side.

  • Hello Sb189

I'm sorry to hear that you've been dealing with this lump. Waiting for test results can be a really difficult time. It's not uncommon for people to search Google looking for answers. Unfortunately Google isn't always the most accurate source of information and it's generally a good idea to give it a wide berth.

I will admit that I don't know what the "red patch" on your scan was but I wonder if it might help to talk things through with one of our team of nurses ahead of your appointment next week. They may be able to help answer some of your questions and think about anything that you may want to ask. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I'm also going to tag in [@Jolamine]‍ and [@Chriss]‍ who may be able to suggest things that they asked at an appointment - or indeed didn't ask but wished they had.

I hope that your appointment next week goes smoothly. Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi there ..

It's a horrible time waiting for results ... looking back, that was the hardest part for many of us ..

I know nothing will stop you worrying... but 8.5 out of ten lumps are benign... and the younger you are the rarer it is positive .. so you've got good odds on your side ... like Jenn I don't know what the red mark was .. I've seen dark shadows and even white cloud looking shadows .. but please please don't Google,

You could have a cold and Google would say it's terminal ... so many people get really scared doing that ..   so hold on, I know it's tuff but there's no easy way round .. all I can say, is there was about 6 other lasses came on here over 2 years ago with breast cancer .. we all held each other up .. and now all the others that started with me, have gone back to their life post cancer... and ones just had a baby boy ..

We hear the sad stories on t.v .. but there's lots of us pushing those limits further all the time .. I had a grade 3 .. thought my number was up .. but still here .. still standing .. well sitting actually as I'm quite old lol ...  but let us know how you go .. sending you a vertual hug... Chrissie x

  • Thank you [@Chriss]‍, that is very true about google, you could die a million times a day from it, but i guess it is the curiosity that killed the cat as they say...

So happy to hear you and several others have had positive outcomes and your here to tell the tale and give us all hope.... feels like a million miles away but next week i will have some answers... i am taking a friend with me for results i wanted to go alone but she told me no. She is the only person who knows too as i dont want to worry lots of people if its nothing to worry about.

Thank you @jenn i have contacted them, im just waiting on a response...  jeez the bruising from the biopsy... they said i should hopefully not get a bruise... well its every colour of the rainbow with the darkest purple line too and goes right across the bottom of my breast... cant be helped i guess...

Thank you for your time in responding i really appreciate it x

I will be back in touch with results... x

    Hi,

Welcome to the forum, although I'm sorry that you've had to join us. You must be very scared at the moment. There are so many unknowns at this stage that it is one of the worst parts of the entire cancer journey. Waiting an extra 2 weeks to be seen, must have been very worrying too.

Chris has already told you that it is only a small percentage of people who receive a positive diagnosis at the breast clinic. Here's hoping that you'll be one of the lucky ones!

I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer 9 and 10 years ago respectively and am stillliving a fairly full life. I'll not say that it's been easy, but it is all doable.

I'm sure that this week will drag while you're waiting for your results. Do your best to keep busy. Take yourself out to the pictures or the theatre or go out with friends at night. This should help you to stay away from Google, as this is never a good idea.

I'm glad to hear that your friend is going to accompany you to your appointment. It is always advisable to take someone to your consultations if you can, as it is all too easy to forget what is said in the heat of the consultation. It is also worth drawing up a list of questions before each appointment.

Do please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine

I have managed to keep busy and not think too much of it... my results are tomorrow... i have felt ok up until now.. i lay in bed thinking all the what ifs i have a list of questions incase. .

I am sorry you have experienced cancer i wish there was a cure and something to prevent anyone getting it. Im happy to hear you are able to still enjoy life though its been hard  .

    Thank you x

    Hi SB,

I hope that all goes well with your results tomorrow.

We all wish that there was a way of preventing it from invading the body and, that we had an effecttive treatment by now. We are certainly getting closer to this stage, but still have a long way to go.

You will be in my thoughts and prayers tomorrow.

    Kind regards,
    Jolamine xx
