Thyroid nodes

Hi so I had found a lump in my neck went to doctors.doctor then sent me for a scan this was in February they said it was my thyroid nodes and it was common in most woman then I notest it had got bigger so I went back to my doctors who then sent me for another scan and this was in June I went to this scan and they said it had grew bigger and also done a blood test to check my thyroid levels they came back normal I Hurd nothing back then I went back to my doctors for the third time because I could feel it was much bigger I could feel it when I swollowed my voice started to go crocky as if I had a sore throat but I never do this time my doctor referred me to a thyroid specialist and my thyroid specialist looked at my neck felt it looked at my records and said yes that has definitely grow bigger since your last scan in June so I was sent for another scan which was 2 weeks ago and yes it had grown again and they also did two biopsy’s while I was there my results came back abnormal I had been sent an appointment for to go see a thyroid surgeon so I went and they said your results have came back abnormal but we cont be 100% sure if it’s cancerous we will have to remove your right thyroid and then it will be sent off for testing I’m so frustrated and anxious scared because I feel like they just won’t tell me why do they have to remove it before they can find out if it is cancerous

  • Hello Yvonne36 and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to hear that you've had ongoing concerns about your thyroid and that your most recent tests have resulted in the surgeon recommending a lobectomy.

As with many "lumps" a fine needle aspiration can given an indication about whether there may be a problem but only after it's been removed can a full picture be seen.

You might find it helpful to chat to the members on this thread here. The members there all have been through a similar experience and hopefully they will be able to give you some reassurance.

We do also have a team of nurses that you can call to talk to. They're available on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm) and I'm sure they'll be able to give you some information.

    Best wishes,
