Blood results

Hi everyone, I developed a lump on my jaw bone. GP referred me for urgent 2 week appointment. Unfortunately because I live in Glasgow the 2 week rule is a guideline only and people are forced to wait weeks. My GP is very concerned because the lump is growing, my lymph nodes are swollen in neck, ear and underarm. He told me there was 2 blood tests he could do that were markers. The tests have come back abnormal and I've been told us imperative I'm seen immediately. Does anyone know what the blood tests were likely to have been please? My cousin died within 12 weeks of a lump being detected in his jaw and his Mum my maternal Aunt died the following year from an extremely aggressive bone cancer. I'm at the end of my tether as have now been waiting almost a month and my appointment isn't until 14/11/19. Thank you and best wishes to everyone

  • Hello Cazzyjojo

I'm afraid that I don't know what additional tests your GP will have done. I'm presuming that as the results came back as abnormal and your GP is concerned that they've passed this information on to the hospital so that they are aware.
I'm not sure if you're able to attend an appointment at short notice but I wonder if it may be worth giving the clinic a call and letting them know that you can attend if they have a cancellation. It may be that they're able to fit you in before your planned appointment next week.

Given everything that you've mentioned in this, and previous posts, it's understandable that you're feeling worried. If you think it might help you to cope then you're welcome to give our team of nurses a call to talk things through. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Keep in touch Cazzyjojo and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Dear Jenn, Thank you so much for replying. I've to phone the clinic each day to see if they have any cancellations, so I'll do that. My skin was very itchy last night where the lump is, then this morning the lump has grown and it's getting difficult to eat now. I'm also feeling very nauseous. I'll just need to be patient. My GP has written to the hospital 3 times to get the appointment brought forward, but I think I'll just need to accept the wait until the 14th.  So many people going through worse, so I'll try to stop moaning about it now and just wait.

Thank you for your help and your reply. I will let you know the outcome.

    Take care Cx
