18 and urgent referral for breast lump

I finally got the courage to visit the GP for a breast lump that I found in my left breast a few months ago. I kept brushing it off as it being a part of my breast tissue but decided to get it checked anyway and now I have a 2ww referral for the suspected cancer clinic, my appointment is on the 13th. I’m only 18, turning 19 next month and just started my first year at university- I’m very scared and have cried since I got back from the GP. The doctor suspects that it’s just granular breast tissue but she needs a second opinion. I have no history of breast cancer in my immediate family but now I’m terrified, I have a lot of work to do for my course but all I can think about is the worst case scenario.

Is is there anyone in the same position? or had been? I really need some advice on how to deal with the wait.

  • Hi there ...

Oh my, I can understand why your so scared .. but please know 8.5 out of ten lumps are benign... l had 4 call backs from mamorgrams over the years were fine... and one felt like a flat pebble... and the younger you are, the better odds ... there are very tiny chance of it being cancer .. though not impossible...

So hold on .. your g p is doing the right thing .. always best to check every lump .. and the 2 week refural is the norm .. so don't panic about that .. so keep busy .. and let us know how you go ...
