Hysteroscopy waiting time

I saw the Gynae Consultant, had initial tests and they have now said they need to do a Hysteroscopy as there is some area of thickening of the womb lining in one area. I waited 7 weeks and rang up yesterday to find out when I would be seen and have been told the list is long and so I will have the Hysteroscopy in January with a bit of luck. Seems a long time to wait as they are 'uncertain' what the thickening is? If this is cancer, that is such a long time to wait. I saw the initial Consultant within days, got the first testing done the next week, yet now I am waiting what will be 4 months for the next lot of testing. I have asked for a last-minute cancellation, but even so. I am wondering what my options now are. I cannot pay.

  • I went to the doctor's 4 weeks ago go with some bleeding. I am 66 and finished my periods finished 19 years ago. The doctor fast tracked me and I got an appointment for a scan which I had add on Tuesday and went to the clinic yesterday for a hysteroscopy and had a polyp removed at the same time. Naturaljazz I would chase your doctor up as January seems an awful long time to wait for the procedure.

  • Very similar to me. I was fast tracked no problem. A scan shows thickening. But the treatment is months away. I will see what GP says. Hospital said it is the wait and sorry, but that is how it is.

  • Hi, naturaljazz, just wondering if you eventually got in for a hysteroscopy? Hope it went ok?

I've been told to book for one, but the wait time is around 90 days long (so just over 3 months) and I honestly dont think I can cope with a wait like that (all my previous blood tests/ultrasounds/pelvic exams came back clear so I am not any closer at all to figuring out what is wrong with me, with my symptoms still present too). I've been having tests since  early december (I keep getting told everything is so unlikely because of my 'younger age', but at this stage its really not reassuring at all.)

Thinking about phoning my doctor for a fast track because my mental health is suffering for it. x

  • Hi F_Quartz

Not got an appointment yet. I have had an unrelated op recently so put it out of my mind to be honest.

I hope you get sorted by fast track, I was on that for initial appointment, but that is not the case in my area for the actual hysteroscopy x

  • Hey!  I just wondered if you'd be happy to share whether you had to wait the 90 days or were seen sooner?  I have been told the same after a thickened endometrium was found on my ultrasound.  My GP didn't mention that 3 of my relatives have had ovarian/womb cancer in the referral so i'm trying to work out if i need to raise this at all.  I'm 26 so have also been told it's unlikely cancer x

  • Hi I had a vaginal scan yesterday and they found thickening of the womb,I got a phone call this morning going in next Wednesday under GA for further investigations I would certainly chase it up.xx

  • Thanks so much for replying so quickly.  Do you mind me asking your age and symptoms just in case they say my age & symptoms are why they're not prioritizing it.  Really hope your appointment next Wednesday goes ok xx

  • Hi I am 55 had bleeding bad stomach pains and really bad indigestion, hope this helps xx

  • Ihad abnormal bleeding around a year ago with pain during intercourse etc. Referred for an ultrasound took 3 months. then the DR has been insistant there's nothing wrong dispite intense pain from sex, bleeding and they found thickening on the womb, possible polyp. Was referred to Gyno told would take 6 weeks, ring them after this time and they said can take 6 months. In the maean time nothing i can do, called the DR and just asking me the same qs about STI's etc. It's a joke I'm worried so much about it.

  • Abnormal bleed, are u In menopause
