calcifications

Hello everyone

I had a mammogram 3 weeks ago and received a letter to go to hospital for more tests

I had an ultrasound another mammogram and a biopsy

I was told i have calcification in my left breast hence the need for the biopsy

The wait for the results is 2 weeks and i am worried sick

Has anybody on here had calcufication and did it turn out ok?

  • Hi magpiemaggie

Thankyou for reasurring me it helps knowing a few more details

Because i have smallish breasts and not a lot of fat tbey are taking a flap of skin from my back and attatching it inside to the blood supply to try and keep the shape of my breast

Like you i want this over with and this nasty disease out of my body

Will keep you posted, it helps me offload my worries a little

  • Hi there

I saw the procedure your getting on a medical program, its great because you will still get feeling in the breast and lasts a lifetime. It will soon be over with and its a great feeling waking up knowing you've come through it, a huge weight lifted, no more mornings waking up thinking about the disease. Try and keep thinking ahead and all those positives. Do let us know who you get on and we are always here if you need to vent. xx

  • you really are an inspiration and so positive. Gives me hope to know i just might be ok at the end of it all

Thankyou for being here you must have helped so many women!!!!! x

  • Hi Mollyree

Of course you will be okay at the end of it, just keep that positive thinking going along with keeping yourself fit and healthy over the next few days!!!

I really hope Wednesday goes well for you, please, please keep us updated.  I have been given a provisional date for my mastectomy of 20th November assuming my blood tests come back okay next Friday and my infection has cleared. I have to be honest and say nerves set in after my Consultant called me Friday (we were out for lunch with friends at the time when she called - a group of 8 of us) to tell me the provisional date.  For the first time since the diagnosis it hit me and I just wanted to cry but kept it together thankfully!!!

Will be thinking of you Wednesday.

  • Hi Rose

Why do you have to have a mastectomy?

    Was the lumpectomy not enough?

    Molly

  • Hi Molly

After analysis of the tumor and the additonal sections, the cancer was found to be evident in the sections and also in 1 lymph node (4 were taken).  They have said that they now need to do a mastectomy which was not what we were expecting to hear and I'll be honest was a total shock. I don't know if this is a common occurence or not to be honest.

I see my Consultant tomorrow and am more prepared this time with questions I want to ask.

Please keep positive and I hope Wednesday goes wll for you.

    Rosie

  • Hi Rose

Sorry to keep asking but did you have an ultrasound on your lymph nodes at first?

I was told mine were ok and it is contained in the milk duct.

What a shock it must have been and i think when they take out the section and a margin of tissue around it thats when they know more.

Waiting for those results must be horrendous and i have all that to come. Please let me know what they say tomorrow.

    Love from Molly x

  • Awhh thanks for that Mollyree it means a lot x

  • Hi Molly

Please don't apologise for asking questions, I'm new to all this and so nervous it actually helps to write some of this down.  I'm finally at the point I feel I need to talk about how I feel but I really don't want to burden or upset my husband with this as obviously he's trying to control his own thoughts and emotions too.

I had an ultrasound on my lymph nodes and breast (mid-June) following the mammogram.  The lymph nodes showed as being clear.  When I had my biopsy on 13th August they did another mammogram and ultrasound and my lymph nodes were clear.  I had a mammogram and ultrasound prior to going into surgery (with my Consultant present) and it was during this ultrasound that my consultant thought it might be beneficial to remove a couple of lymph nodes.  I'll be honest and didn't think anything of it!!

Due to the fact that I have had complications following the original surgery on 1st October and visiting the hospital daily since then (including today), we honestly totally forgot about the follow up results meeting on 30th October.  It was only a couple of days before that we remembered the appointment.  Naively we thought that due to all the complications, blood tests and ultrasounds etc., being carried we would have heard if there were any further problems following the initial surgery but obviously not the case at all.  Retrospectively, the positive is the fact that we didn't worry about the results.  That said, I know after the mastectomy we are going to be worried until we hear the results of the follow up after that!!!!

I'll let you know how I get on tomorrow and you let me know how Wednesday goes.........

Take care Molly, let's fight this together.

  • Hi Rosie

    How did you get on?

I had my lumpectomy yesterday. Was marked up for surgery at 7.45am and didnt go to theatre till 2.45pm.

I also had a flap of skin taken from my back to reconstruct my breast as i havent much up top!!

I was supposed to get out the same day but i felt so sick they kept me in overnight.

I must say i had the best care possible and im so so grateful to them all. Fantastic nurses, doctors, consultants

    in fact everyone were amazing

Now to start the healing process before my radiotherapy starts
