Dads oral cancer diagnosis

My dads recently been diagnosed with mouth cancer. The results finally came 24/10/19 after having the biopsy 27/09/19.

Blood tests were taken and have come back all clear.

He's had the MRI scan on Monday 28/10/19, CT scan tomorrow 31/10/19

We have to wait for those 2 results , then all the family will be invited to have the chat with the consultants. Is this normal.

We are all trying to remain positive. But has all come as a complete shock.

He's also had a colonoscopy at a different hospital, which is showing shadowing on his liver, but no cancer in the colon. So the hospital has asked for a repeat CT scan of the liver plus more blood tests, just in case.  Again is this normal.

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi tlb79,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to read about your dad - I can imagine this is a difficult time for all of you.

It's quite normal for family or a friend/relative to be part of finding out more from the consultant.

It sounds like they're doing repeat tests and a variety of tests so that they can get all the necessary information - it sounds like they're being thorough which is a good thing.

I can imagine this all feels worrying - hopefully you can all support each other with this. Do also use this forum as much as you'd like to discuss any worries or thoughts - it's a very understanding community of people here.

I hope it's not too much longer for you to wait to find out more.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Thanks for the post. In the meantime dad has been admitted to hospital, his calcium levels are extremely high 2.99.

He's going to be on a drip to flush his system through.

Then for the bone density scan and repeat CT .

there was a query on his notes, advanced bowel cancer. Just want the complete diagnosis, then prognosis.
