Out of my mind

So I know we should all check our breasts, but to be honest I do very rarely because I don't really know how to! I checked them on Friday and felt something different in my left breast, not so much a lump just thicker. I went to my gp who knows me well as I suffer with my mental health and health anxiety. I was expecting her to say that she couldn't feel anything or that it was my anxiety building up again, but she didn't :( She agreed that there was a thickening of glands there but was referring me to hospital to put my mind at rest. I don't really have any other symptoms, she checked my glands on my neck and under arms but didn't say anything about if she had found anything, I have just recently had bloods done and they picked up a slight infection that would Co inside with me just having norovirus the previous week. I am going out of my mind here with worry :(

Has anyone else had a thickening of the glands but it not be cancer?

  • Hello Pippa_b,

Welcome to our forum. You've taken the right steps to go and see a GP you trust and feel comfortable with and it's good that she has referred you to put your mind at rest. I hope it won't be long now before you get your appointment. Try not to worry if you can - your GP is being thorough and it won't be long now before you find out more. As you have a tendency to suffer from health anxiety, it's all the more important that you avoid looking anything up online as this will only make you feel worse and more worried. The best thing to do at the moment while you are waiting is to keep busy and distracted so that your mind is occupied by other things - I know it is easier said than done though!

I hope you will hear from others here who have been in a similar situation and that they will come and share their story with you.

    Best wishes,
