Mole removal

Just over 2 weeks ago I went to see my Gp about a very black mole which was about 3 - 4 mm  in size with asymmetry border on my left upper arm  . He referred me to the Dermatolgy clinic on a 2 week wait . I was seen by them last thursday and was told they would remove it , again on a 2 week wait . The same day I got a call to say they had a cancellation and could I come in the next day to have this done which i did and it has now been removed . The nurse that removed told me it looked very  suspicious but that hopefully I had caught it early as it was small . I am now very anxious about the results.  I have previously had 2 different types of thyroid cancer and am currently in remission of this since 2011 . I know there are people out there with far bigger problems then me but I dont think I can cope if yet another conversation starts with it is/ was cancer . I feel very alone at the moment with my thoughts and trying to put a brave face on to my family and friends .

  • Hi,

You aren't alone - you have come to the right place to voice your fears & to get support.

The nurse & dermatologists cannot be 100% confident by looking at a mole, even when it's been removed, as to whether it's cancerous - they have been known to be wrong (I have melanoma & I've had 7 other moles removed that looked dodgy but were all benign)! So there is still a chance yours will come back clear. If it does come back as melanoma don't despair - it will hopefully be early stage & the surgery will completely remove it or there are many new treatments now that are having promising results. I was diagnosed with early stage melanoma 23 years ago - unfortunately I was in the 5% that has a recurrence & I have been Stage 3 for 10 years - I am still fit & healthy though so it's not all doom & gloom.

Good luck with your results - try to distract yourself & not dwell on it until the day. Please let us know how you get on,

    Angie
