Looking for help

Hi everyone this is my first time posting on here and I am just curious as to what night sweats actually feel like as I have a swollen lymph node on the back right side of my neck it’s about the size of a peanut, horizontal, not rock hard but firm and no pain. My gp got bloods done and everything is clear however over the past 6 months or so (probably longer because I have not kept track) I wake in the night and my neck/chest is soaking with sweat the only way I can describe is is I can run my hand up my neck and My hand will be wet, like I’ve just came out the sauna. I wear jammy bottoms to bed but stopped wearing tops as they just get wet. I have also lost my appetite feeling sick towards the end of a meal or just can’t face food some days, this is odd for me as I am a total foodie. I originally went to the GP on the 30th September 2019 which will be 4 weeks ago tomorrow and I’m sure the lump was there for a good few weeks before that. I am not one for running to the doctor for anything however i am starting to get a bit worried now and would like to know what others experience with night sweats just so I can put my mind at ease that it may just be an infection or something silly. Thank you in advance

  • Hi

I think night sweats are different depending on personal circumstance. I get night sweats due to breast cancer medication and my sweats result in my hair and every part of my body being soaked (think bucket challenge)  my pillows and matress are wet with sweat,I sleep with the bedroom window open and still sweat.  My son also gets night sweats but he is not ill, this is due to him pulling the covers up to his neck and not letting any air in or out as he sleeps and he describes them as being in a sauna - which is hardly surprising given that he has made a makeshift sauna by wraping the covers around him.

I'm glad you went to see your GP about this and that the bloods came back clear, perhaps you could go see them again and let them know you are still worried, that way they could either run more tests or put your mind at rest that there is nothing for you to worry about.

  • Thank you for your reply I am on a sleepover at work as I am a support worker and I woke in the night with a wet pillow/hair/chest this never used to happen i have always been a cold person. I will make another appointment with my GP they did ask me to go back if the lump didn’t go away within 2 weeks and that’s now 4, I’m sure it is just an infection of some sort.

I really appreciate your reply thank you again.

  • Go back to your doctor again. You aren't making a fuss at all
