Waiting for biopsy appointment

Hi all, this is my 1st time posting here and was hoping someone could help please,,

after persistent voice hoarseness for 6months i saw a ENT consultant back in may this year which after putting a camera up my nose and down my throat said I had granulation in my throat caused by acid reflux (which I've never suffered from) which needed removing (was reassured it was nothing serious, the camera was only in place for a second or so as it made me gag and vomit), due to my weight I had to be referred to a different consultant, being treated for acid reflux while I waited for the next appointment. I eventually got this next appointment for the 24th September, I had the same procedure done with the camera up my nose, he then said I have a white thickening on my left vocal chord which he was referring me for extremely urgent surgery and suggested it may be cancerous and must give up smoking straight away (which I have), i got called in for my pre-op/health check on the 2nd October and was told I was booked in for surgery on the 23rd (1 month after referral for surgery), after no letters or calls confirming the date I called the week before the 23rd to enquire and got told it had been cancelled and a new appointment would be sent out. It's been nearly two weeks now since I called and I still haven't got another appointment but been reassured I'm still on the extremely urgent list,, should I of had the surgery my now or am I just being over anxious and impatient??

  • Hi there

sometimes these things can take time. I was referred for an ultrasound which took a month. After that I got seen quite fast within two weeks I'd been referred to a sarcoma team and some October I've had two appointment, an MRI and a biopsy and on list for surgery next month. I think each hospital may operate differently, can you call them again and have another chat to see if they can give a new date? Please try to not stress too much but I would persist on phone and email if you can. Maybe have a word with GP as well.

    best wishes

  • Hi, thankyou so much for your reply, yes they do seem to take time, feels forever lol. I really hope all goes well for you and have a smooth recovery from surgery. I'll try not to stress but being a natural born worrier I probably will sti lol so Yes I will definitely call them tomorrow plus GP if i dont get anywhere,

    Many thanks

    X

  • Telephone the consutant's sedentary and ask what is happening.Stuff does go astray and hospitals don't seem to know or care about the amount of grief they cause by cancelling people.Cancellations are done by clerical staff who have never seen you.It is possible the consultant doesn't even know that you have been cancelled.....

  • Morning all, thankyou all for your advice, I have just contacted the hospital who informed me no appointments can be arranged or confirmed at the moment as the consultant is on holiday till the 6th November
