Recent Breast cancer diagnosis and weak shoulder

I have breast cancer and was diagnosed on Thursday. At the moment I know it's the one lump measuring 2cm and have to return 04/11 to discuss treatment. I also have an mri scan booked. Since diagnosis I have been reading everything and now starting to panic as I do have a weak shoulder on the same side as the breast. I have always blamed my handbag. Now panicking that this is a bad sign. Will the mri pick up the shoulder weakness or should I mention at my next apt. Think I am still in shock at the moment. I have two children 7 & 10 such a vulnerable age and I do not want their life to be disrupted by this. So good to discover this blog and see I'm not the only one affected.

  • Hi mic-st,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to read about your diagnosis - I hope you're getting on OK, although I can certainly imagine things feel a bit uncertain and worrying at the moment.

At this stage it sounds like you have limited information so try not to assume anything, and also it's best not to look things up online as the information isn't specific to you and can be inaccurate.

Once you have your next appointment and the scan you'll know more and will have some clear next steps to take.

In terms of your question about your shoulder, it would be best to ask prior to your scan - or at your next appointment.

It's natural to feel the way you're feeling - try to carry on as normally as you can for the time being. I'm glad you found Cancer Chat too and I hope you find it helpful.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
