Itching and painful left breast, should I go back to GP?

I'm 31 and for about 9 months I've been getting this persisant itch on my left breast. It doesn't feel like it's my skin if that makes sense, it's like an internal itch. I'd been getting pain in my shoulder blade at the same side prior and the first doctor I saw thought it might have been connected. The last doctor I saw examined me fully and said that she could feel no lumps and couldn't see any rashes so she wasn't concerned enough to even refer me. But I've still not got answers. Anyone experienced anything similar? Sometimes it can feel really painful and heavy then other times it's ok just this itch.

    HI Regansmummy,

    I am sorry to hear about your persistant itch. What age is Regan? Sometimes having a baby can alter your breasts, but in most cases it is treatable and not necessarily cancerous. There are creams available on prescription, which will reduce itching, even if there is no rash or fungal infection present. It might be worth discussing with your GP if one of these preparations might help you.

    I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 10 years and my surgeon advised me that in most instances a cancerous lump is not painful.

    Hello. I know this is an old post but did you find out the cause? I am also experiencing an itchy and painful left breast, radiates to my neck and shoulder. I am also 14 weeks postpartum, any reassurance would help.

    Hi Kmac,

    I am sorry to hear of your symptoms. 

    I am not a doctor and, although I appreciate that this could all be related to your pregnancy, I would advise you to consult your GP about this. It is unusual to have pain accompanying breast cancer, so I am hoping that this may be hormonal, but you are better to get it checked out, even if only for your own peace of mind.
