Confused

Went to see my Gp 2 weeks ago with tender nipple and small amount of green discharge after warm compress and massage as suggested on NHS website. Was referred on 2 week wait was seen yesterday by breast consultant, swab to establish if blood was present taken and yes it was slide taken  for histology mammogram done no change from last one ultrasound normal. The consultant has suggested removal of all milk ducts as only way to establish what's going on, seems radical. I asked her straight do I have cancer she replied categorically NO. So why such invasive surgery?

  • Hi Longharri,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. Unfortunately I'm unable to advise on your question. I can certainly see that this seems like a fairly radical solution. Perhaps you could ask for a second opinion from another doctor.

Alternatively you may wish to speak to one of our nurses who may be better placed to advise. You can reach them on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

I hope you're able to get this sorted soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
